Of the many certifications that contract manufacturing companies hold, the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (Nadcap) is one of the most highly coveted. Although Nadcap accreditation was originally established as a means of standardizing quality assurance measures for the aerospace and defense industries, the accreditation has become a symbol of excellence across the board. Nadcap was not officially established until 1990; however, the concept of improving standards in the aerospace industry began in the early 1900’s.
Achieving Nadcap accreditation is not easy,” Jorge Richardson, President, PARPRO Mexico said. “But, it’s one of the ways in which the aerospace industry identifies those who excel at manufacturing quality products through superior specialized processes.”
1. What is Nadcap?
NADCAP, short for National Aerospace & Defense Contractors Accreditation Program, was initially conceived by the Department of Defense as a means to control cost and ensure consistent aerospace product and process quality. Nadcap is an industry-managed approach to conformity assessment of ‘special processes’ that brings together technical experts from prime contractors, suppliers and representatives from government to work together and establish requirements for approval of suppliers using a standardized approach. Unlike traditional third party programs, Nadcap approval is granted based upon industry consensus.
2. Who should have Nadcap accreditation?
This accreditation is intended for organizations doing business in the aerospace industry.
3. What will Nadcap do for me, what added value does it serve?
The Nadcap program offers the opportunity for suppliers to gain tighter controls within their special processes, provides the forum for a voice in the establishment of audit requirements, networking, and market recognition. More than two-thirds of aerospace industry representatives believe Nadcap contributes to the overall aerospace industry’s safety record. Even if you’re not making aerospace parts that mandate NADCAP accreditation, the regimen established to accommodate such requirements benefits all PARPRO customers. Whether you’re making parts for computers or medical equipment, you’re assured that they’re being done according to the highest standards for the industry.
